Roofing Standards

The Reston Association DRB, approved moving to Certainteed Landmark Architectural Shingles in either Weathered Wood or Granite Gray in August 2020. These new shingles have quickly become the industry standard and offer many advantages over the older XT25 shingle including a lifetime warranty. Please review the Certainteed website for more information.

In October 2020, the RA DRB approved adding GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles as an alternative to the Certainteed Product. The approved GAF Timberline shingle colors are Weathered Wood and Slate (approved Dec 2021)

Any new roofing installed at Townes at Waterford must use an Architectural Shingle from either of these manufacturers in these approved color options. Each building in TAW has a different shingle color in use today, and new roofs must utilize that same color. Please refer to the TAW Roof View document to understand the shingle color in use by building/row at TAW today.

An application to Reston Association DRB IS NOT REQUIRED to replace your existing roof with these approved architectural shingles. Simply advise your contractor of the roofing standards at TAW, and once the roofing job is completed, send an email to Richard Zeisler, our Covenants Advisor - rzeisler@reston.org and copy the TAW Cluster Board President and advise of your address and the shingle change. RA will update their records accordingly.
